In the competitive world of professional voice-over, talent alone is not enough. Organization, strategy, and an entrepreneurial mindset are essential to providing quality service and standing out in a globalized market. In this article, I’ll tell you how I manage my professional voice-over business as if it were a high-performance team, revealing the keys that allow me to grow day by day.
When I started my career as a professional voice-over artist, I realized that standing out in this industry required more than just talent. It took discipline, strategy, and above all, a deep passion for my craft and the ability to adapt to the demands of commercial spots and voice dubbing, as well as audiobook projects, PA systems, and corporate videos or e-learnings.
Although I work solo, I have learned to manage myself as if I were leading a multidisciplinary team. This mindset allows me to grow, adapt, and offer every client top-quality service.
How do I achieve this? I divide myself into different roles, as if each one were an essential gear in a perfectly oiled machine:
The creative and technical voice talent
I take responsibility for every nuance of the voice recording: from performance to editing, taking utmost care of sound quality, emotion, and effectiveness for creative commercials, Spanish and Catalan e-learnings, or documentary dubbing. My academic interest in the languages I use and my training as a musician and singer have made me a bilingual voice artist with no accents and a 4-octave range. We work with audio, and my auditory sensitivity has only sharpened over the years.
The marketing and communication strategist
I plan content, post on social media, nurture my personal brand, and work to connect with those looking for a voice to help them tell their story—whether through a corporate video, a commercial spot, or a children's story.
The client and project manager
I provide close support to every client, meet deadlines with maximum promptness, and ensure the process is agile, efficient, and enriching, whether it's an audiobook, film dubbing, or an audio guide. I always try to contribute my vision. I want to help my client!
The visionary and entrepreneur
I analyze results, spot opportunities, and look for ways to differentiate myself in an increasingly competitive and globalized sector. My client comes first, and my versatility and experience are my best assets. I am training with the new Digital Generation, improving my market positioning. This includes staying alert to new trends in professional voice-over, training to provide a natural voice and distancing myself more and more from those soulless AI voices.
